It’s funny because I remember years ago when I was afraid to design. I would prep for everyone so we could stay on schedule. I knew if I designed we would get behind because I didn’t know how to do it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ One day I had to learn regardless and every time I design a daily arrangement I have flashbacks to that time.

Just remember that everyone starts at the beginning!! No is born knowing how to do this and we all learn as we go. Don’t be scared to try new things and definitely never give up! 💪🏻

It’s been a year since I tried on wedding dresses @amourbridaltexas so I thought I’d share a few pictures of dresses I tried on but didn’t choose! 👰🏼‍♀️💍 I think I tried on maybe 5 or 6? I can’t remember but it wasn’t many! I also wanted a long veil with blue floral embroidered on the bottom but my stylist Katherine put this one on me and I fell in love with the whole look! 🤍

You have no idea how badly I wanted one with pockets. We all know how I feel about pockets. 😂

When I started Cone Flower Designs, I wasn’t using top-of-the-line anything. I wasn’t buying the most expensive tools or following trends just to say I had them. I used what I had access to. I made it work. And I got really dang good at working smarter, not more expensively. 🤓

It’s easy to feel like you have to buy all the newest stuff to be taken seriously…but don’t fall for that!! Being resourceful, efficient, and confident in your own process is worth way more than having the latest fancy cutter or trendy clippers.

Everyone knows (and loves) baby’s breath but have you ever met chamomile? 👀 Sometimes called feverfew, this dainty filler flower is one we highly recommend and love to use!

Here’s the thing: baby’s breath isn’t cheap when you need 27,378 bunches to pull off an install 😆 There are so many filler flowers out there that are just as pretty and sometimes even better depending on the design.

Don’t sleep on the power of a good filler! 👏🏻

This will allow the shoots to be spaced out evenly vs all being tight together if you add the stems in after you do your greenery base. Since blue thistle shoots are typically lower down on the stem it’s smart to start first with them!

Sometimes the shoots will all be closer to the top of the stem and you can add it in second to the greenery but we always like to start with it first! 1️⃣

Each wedding, event or order goes on a brown clipboard.
Blue clipboards are for order acknowledgments plus they divide our weeks out on the clipboard wall.

Our clipboards have our proposal, recipes sheets and any information that goes with that order. Timeline, layout, inspiration pictures, etc.

💡More flowers = more money.

Heavy floral with minimal greenery isn’t just a “look” it’s a luxury! This bouquet had over 40 stems (yes, 40+) including peonies, butterfly ranunculus, and standard ranunculus. Those are pricier delicate florals that our bride loved!

With our standard 3.5x markup (which includes tax, labor, supplies, etc.), this bouquet comes in just over $450. And that’s not just the cost of the flowers that covers:

🌿Processing and prepping each stem

🌿Last-minute product swaps

🌿The mechanics and design work

🌿Time

🌿Setup, delivery, installation...

You get the idea!! You’re not just paying for pretty you’re paying for professionalism and execution. 🌼

Every florist prices differently depending on two big things:

🌸 Their overhead

🌸 Their markup + where they source flowers

So if you’re asking “why does this cost so much?” it’s because you’re getting way more than just stems.

PS. let me tell you I made a mistake and ate the cost of peonies on this one. Yes, I make mistakes and no, I don’t go back and charge our client for it after the fact. That’s not right!! 😆

📋Let’s talk about one of the most essential systems in our entire studio: the clipboard wall. This wall has completely transformed the way we run our business, and we truly could not operate without it at this point!

Every single wedding, event, or order we have gets its own clipboard. On that clipboard, we attach anything and everything related to that specific project. That includes the full proposal, floral recipes, timeline, layout, inspiration photos, contact information, and any other notes we need to reference. Instead of scrambling through files or flipping through apps, we can walk over, glance at the clipboard, and know exactly what’s going on and where we’re at in the process. ✅

😱 We also work several weeks ahead, so this wall gives us a visual roadmap of what’s coming up. We can quickly assess how full our week is, how many weddings are happening, and what stage each one is in. And here’s where it gets even better our entire team has access to this information too. Everyone can clearly see what is happening each week and can stay aligned without constant check-ins or confusion. That kind of visibility is everything. Truly everything!

One of our favorite parts of this system is the custom stamps we use to mark progress. Each proposal gets stamped and as we hit key milestones they get marked off. This helps us see at a glance what still needs to be finalized, what’s ready to go, and what’s fully wrapped. It might seem simple, but it has made a huge impact on our workflow and communication.

Over the years we’ve made little improvements to this wall and recently made another tweak that we’re showing in this reel. Every change we’ve made has come from trial and error and figuring out what makes our process more efficient and less chaotic.

If you’re a florist, planner, or really anyone who manages multiple events at once, having a visual system like this could make all the difference. It’s been one of the best things we’ve ever implemented and has truly helped us stay organized, proactive and chill during even the busiest weeks.

Bins inside bins inside bins…welcome to the hydration chamber! 🙌🏻📋✅

Let’s talk about what a hydration chamber actually is, what we keep in ours, and why it’s part of our weekly system. We’ve had a bunch of people ask, so here we go 👇

If you’re not familiar with our process yet, every wedding/event/order gets assigned a color for the entire week. That color gets buckets, a hydration chamber bins, tags, prep bins, you name it. Is it a little extra? Probably!! But it keeps everything organized and ensures nothing gets mixed up. 👏🏻

Inside our hydration chamber bin:
We keep three smaller bins labeled:
🌿 Bouquet ribbon
🌿 Boutonnière ribbon
🌿 Corsage cuffs
🌿 Plus our boutonnière holder

When we pull supplies on Monday, we also prep ribbon for bouquets and bouts, precut and ready, with pins included. That way, when we’re wrapping bouquets or packing bouts, everything’s ready to grab. It’s also a built-in checkpoint to make sure we’ve designed the right number of personals! The corsage bin just holds the cuffs until we’re ready to use them, keeping them off random shelves avoids confusion (ask us how we know 😅).

We also store our boutonnière holder in here, a test tube rack we snagged off Amazon (linked in our storefront!). We pre-fill the water picks and drop them in the rack on the correct shelf. It’s a game-changer: you can design the bout then directly put it into the water pick, then pop the whole rack into the cooler so everything stays hydrated until delivery.

And what even is a hydration chamber? 😱
For us, it’s where we store corsages, broken stems and delicate personals. Nothing goes to waste: broken stems from processing get reused for cake flowers, flat lays, boutonnières, etc. We line the bin with a damp paper towel, place items inside, and cover them with another damp towel to keep things hydrated and fresh for delivery day. We pack them up into nicer boxes on deliver day. Presentation is everything! 🤩

This system might sound over the top, but it works so well for us. Just remember: take the parts that make sense for you and make it your own! Hope this helps!

Here’s our go-to system for designing floral cuffs (but remember, take what works and ditch what doesn’t):
🌿 Lay your cuffs out
🌿 Prep your flowers + greenery
🌿 Glue a base if needed (ribbon, moss, a leaf—whatever gives you structure). We didn’t use one on these and they were perfect!
🌿 Glue the top of the cuff and glue your focal flowers then place
🌿 Add filler
🌿 Add greenery
🌿 Check for holes or exposed glue
🌿 Hydration chamber until you’re ready to pack

That’s it. Nothing wild. But it works and it’s repeatable, scalable, and stress-free(ish). I mean you’re making corsages sooooo 🤣 If you’re trying to copy someone else’s routine and it’s just not clicking? It’s not you. Adjust it. Change it. Make it your own!

As a florist one of our top skills is problem solving. That’s why we carry a Mary Poppins bag 💼 😆

The morning of this wedding my gut was telling me to bring extra supplies just in case.
- bricks
- extra greenery on top of the extra we already had (we brought it all)
- extra flowers on top of the extra we already had (we brought every single stem)
- extra zip ties (on top of the extra that were already in tool boxes)

This was rare but we did it and holy moly thank goodness we did because the wind kicked our butt 😵😬😵‍💫

We had never experienced wind THIS intense.
- we zip tied the aisle trays to the chairs
- we zip tied bricks to the grounded arch trays
- we used all the greenery to hide the bricks/mechanics in the front of the design + added more stems to all the trays because stems were breaking

Right before the ceremony I had an allergic reaction to something I kneeled down into. THE CRAZIEST THING 😱 I’ve never experienced that so that was nutty. Popped a Benadryl and pushed through to get the flip done. ✅

We repurposed the trays in front of the stage, cake and Photobooth area at the reception. We basically had 5-10 minutes to make this happen and FIX everything.

It was all hands on deck and our team stepped up to get it all done. There’s no really training for these moments and when they happens it’s trust, problem solving and clear communication on what needs to be done.

Let me just say that after this flipped I passed out in the car because of the Benadryl 😂 This was a rare one because we were cleaning up at the end of the night. We had an hour and twenty minute drive home at midnight when we finished at the venue.

10/10 wedding though. No ragerts (IYKYK) 😆🤍🌸🌿

Leaf as a base, put glue on the leaf as well as the blooms, wait a few seconds then put your blooms on the base. Repeat the process until you’re done! We start with our base, focal flowers, greenery then filler. You do what process works for you but this seems to work great for us!

Remember to do the shake test! I forgot to film it before I packed them up this time but if you look at our studio highlights I’m sure you’ll see a handful of videos where we shake the hell out of the corsages to ensure they don’t break!

Some of our corsages a few weeks ago BROKE. 😱😳😵😵‍💫 Thankfully I record everything because ya know everything is content. 😆 I watched the video and realized I skipped gluing the bloom and only glued the based on three corsages. It sucked that this happened but thankfully we were there and fixed it right away. We didn’t have glue in our toolboxes because the glue tube exploded from the heat since we keep them in the Betty’s. CRAZY!! We used glue dots and it worked but always check them before packing them up!!

Sharing this because it happens to us all! We all have things happen in the studio, during delivery, on site, etc. just do what’s needed to correct the situation and move forward. Don’t dwell on it because you can’t go back. You can learn from it and I promise you won’t make the same mistake twice! 😉

Just know brides, if you want something done all you gotta do is ask! Lauren wanted to use parts of her dress and a handkerchief to wrap her bouquet and we said absolutely!

She provided it to us a few weeks before the wedding and it was perfect around her bouquet. We also put some around the grooms boutonnière!

Highly recommend if you have something meaningful you want to carry with you. 🤍

Part 1: Mechanics for an 11 Inch Lomey

Thought we would share the mechanics behind our largest lomeys yet! Simple but effective and spot on!

Supplies:
11 inch lomey dish
Oasis Floral Foam Grande Bricks: 9 x 4 3/4 x 6
Oasis 1/2 inch waterproof tape

You wouldn’t think this would come in handy but holy hell. 🤣

We typically empty our buckets into a strainer that sits in the sink but sometimes the water is in a bucket for less than 24 hours so we just scoop it out and keep going!

We took a rectangle bucket and drilled holes all over the sides + the bottom to make our own strainer. So quick and simple!

Easy hack that I’m sure majority of you know but wanted to share in case it comes in handy for you! 😂

We found a solution using @sterilitecorporation bins of course!

Laurel came up with a great solution a few years ago on how to maintain and keep up with the amount of dried product we had.

We went through event stem of product. Organizing it by type, throwing away bad product, selling product we would never use, etc.

We grabbed some sterilite bins from walmart (on sale!!) and started to organize everything.
- we drilled holes in the top of the bin for air flow so product wouldn’t mold.
- pampas grass is in an old pikes box because the pieces are so long!

This cut our dried product cost significantly!!! It was truly nuts because we would order the same item constantly just because we couldn’t find it. It was crazy and a complete waste of money. 😑

This is an inexpensive way to stay organized, save money and keep a handle on your dried product!
